Chapter Six

Forge

The fact a week had passed and no one had seen Tommy, or heard from him, put me on edge. He hadn’t met with his parole officer, hadn’t accessed his accounts. It was like the fucker had vanished. Except grown-ass men didn’t disappear unless they had some help. So the question remained, had someone assisted him with leaving the area? Were they hiding him? Or had he pissed off the wrong person and was already rotting in a grave somewhere? As much as I wanted to bury the fucker myself, knowing he wouldn’t hurt Whisper again would be good enough.

“Nothing?” I asked.

Shield shook his head. “Sorry, brother. I’ve searched. I can’t even find him using the cameras around town. No traffic cams, store security footage… nothing. If he’s out there walking around, it has to be with a new face. Wire and Lavender even hacked into the systems and used their facial recognition program to search for him. They came up empty too.”

Well, fuck. If those two couldn’t find the asshole, it didn’t bode well. He could be anywhere. I’d thought for sure he’d come for Whisper. He hadn’t had an easy time in prison. If I were in his position, I’d want revenge. I didn’t think for one second that prick had grown a conscience in the pen. No, he was up to something. I just didn’t know what it was. Yet.

“Keep looking. He has to be somewhere. I want Whisper to sleep well at night and not worry what might happen when she leaves the compound. With Jacob in school, it’s not like the two of them can stay locked up here indefinitely.”

“You know we won’t give up, Forge. Whisper and Jacob are family.”

“Thanks. Not sure everyone sees it that way.” I ran a hand over the beard slowly growing in. I needed to shave, but who the fuck had time? Between my new family, trying to find Tommy, the shit I handled for the club, and working at the shop, I was already spread a little thin.

“They’ll come around. Lyssa, Hayley, and Danica all love her. Which means you’ve got their men in your corner. Not to mention Brick is her dad, so naturally he’ll be on your side. The newer members seem to like Whisper well enough.”

“I know, and I’m grateful. Really. I’m just not sure I can handle the remarks the others think I don’t hear. They’re starting to run their mouths around the damn club whores too. I won’t have those bitches badmouthing my woman.”

Shield sighed. “You know damn well why they’re being so catty. You haven’t been to the clubhouse since you got back. Even if you didn’t take any of them up on their offers the last several months or more, you were at least there. They thought they had a shot at getting into your bed, and maybe staying there forever. Then you show up married and avoid the parties… They’ll get over it, or Whisper will need to confront them.
